FALL ACTING PROGRAM 2010 AT THE YOUNG ACTOR'S STUDIO

 WEEKEND CLASSES START SEPTEMBER 18TH WEEKDAY CLASSES START SEPTEMBER 20TH

ACTING TECHNIQUE AND PRODUCTION

We recommend that all students take acting technique along with the production class. The technique is to help the student to use their own personality and experience and allow that to live on screen or stage and the production class teaches students to merge that very uniqueness into the scripted role.   A performance with full lights and costumes is presented at the end of the semester. 

Saturdays or Sundays from 10AM-to-2PM  (7-12 year-old group) 

Saturdays or Sundays from 2PM-to-6PM (teen and young adult)  

(with a mid point break)  Any additional rehearsals are complimentary. 

ADDITIONAL CLASSES:   

ACTING ON CAMERA 

This class is designed to teach young actors to merge their own uniqueness into the demands of acting on film and television. The young actor learns about the technicalities of working on camera, how to make a scene real, as well as various audition techniques to make them stand out.  In addition, they learn comedy improv and gain a freedom in front of the camera. It is recommended that students have at least one semester of Acting Technique when enrolling. 

Sundays:  12:00-to-1:30 (Teen Camera)

Sundays:   2PM -to-3:30PM (7-to-12 year old class) 

Thursdays: 5:00pm to 6:30pm

 

 

Cost: $400.00  Duration: Ten weeks

NOTE: This class is offered at $300.00 when taken in combination with Technique and Productions on Saturdays or Sundays.

 

PROFESSIONAL ACTING COACHING

Our faculty and staff are available during the week to private coach for auditions, scene preparations, and greater in-depth technique.

 

ADULT ACTING CLASS

Technique and Scene Study Advanced ClassBased on the Stanislavski System and work of Strasberg, Jeff Alan-Lee teaches students to use their own unique qualities to act. In addition, he teaches students to merge this into the scripted role, and therefore stand out on the set or in the audition room.Classes are on-going and space is limited. Monday Evenings: 7:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.  

THE YOUNGER YOUNG ACTOR'S STUDIO

for Kids Ages 4 - to - 6This fun class is a great introduction to the magic of theatre. The Young actor explores acting through story telling, animal exercises, Fairy tales and improvisation, as well as voice and movement. This is a wonderful class to build the younger actor's self esteem, by helping them to trust their own unique imagination. 

Saturdays  at 9 a.m.  to 10 a.m

 

4-6 YEAR OLD AFTER SCHOOL CLASS WITH CAMERA

This fun class is a great introduction to theatre and film. The young actor explores acting through story telling, improvisation, as well as voice and movement. This class also includes some fun camera work. This is a wonderful class to build the young actor's self esteem, by helping them to trust their own unique imagination. 

Tuesdays 4-5 p.m. 

Cost: $200


Commissioned Project- Now Accepting Submissions

The Young Actor's Studio is now accepting submissions for it's upcoming Commissioned Workshop Project. We will be commissioning three Southern California based playwrights to create some scenes/monologues for our teen/young adult students. The commissioned writers will meet the selected students in the middle of December, and work toward creating some original scenes/monologues. Previous commissioned works have been published through Three New Plays for Young Actors from The Young Actors Studio(Limelight Editions). 

Writers are asked to submit the following materials for consideration:
-Cover letter- 
-A resume/bio
-Up to 3 theatrical writing samples (pref. one-acts, ten-minute plays- but full-length plays are acceptable as well). NOTE: Please do not include name, or any contact information, on the 3 writing samples.

Please note that physically mailed materials will not be returned.  
 
The deadline for submission is Friday, November 11th. The next phase will be an interview which will happen shortly thereafter. 

Writers commissioned will receive an honorarium  for the project, have their work performed, and/or potential publishing opportunities. Past works commissioned at The Young Actor's Studio have been published (Three New Plays for Young Actors- Limelight Editions)- thus, publishing opportunities may also be explored at the agreement of both playwright and The Young Actor's Studio.
